Architecture et Mecanismes

Celine & Tatiana STEPHAN

Céline earned her Bachelor degree in Architecture from the American University of Beirut in 2008. Her final year project was granted the Dean’s award for Creative Achievement. She took part in various internships in Beirut, Paris and New York City between 2005 and 2007. Following her studies, she worked at DW5 / Bernard Khoury Architects for five years (2008-2013) where she followed the different phases of projects ranging from architecture and interior missions to furniture installations. She has since been working independently on various architecture and design projects she has dubbed ”Mécanismes”.

Her sister Tatiana, joined “Architecture et Mécanismes” in September 2014 after earning her Master’s degree in Architecture from the Académie Libanaise des Beaux Arts (ALBA), where she graduated with distinction.

Both having architectural backgrounds, their vision about product design is characterized by radical, rough, structured and well detailed elements getting together to form smaller scale units. The execution phase of each project has gained major importance during their process and has led them to work closely and learn from local artisans and craftsmen. Their concepts are always inspired from the context in which they are building, and hence Beirut and its chaos have surely injected fuel into their creations.

Mohamad El Kout

Mohamed strongly believes that no furniture piece should resemble the other. When he first opened his carpentry in 1990, Mohamed knew that customized designs are the way to move his business forward.

Specializing in bedrooms, dining rooms, bedrooms and chairs, Mohamed makes sure every detail is made to perfection. Modern or classic, it is up to the client to decide and for Mohamed to make the best out of it, as producer and interior consultant.

This path has been fruitful for Mohamed so far, as he managed to export some of his work to Oman and KSA. He is proud to have made a name for himself thanks to the influence Tripoli had on him. However, he still looks for modern techniques to evolve his business, using the internet as source of knowledge and inspiration believing that the future belongs to those who adapt.

We are the second version of Architecture et mécanismes custom made architectural fittings. We are handles that can be installed on doors, closets and drawers. We can be custom made in terms of scale and finishing. Most of us are inspired from items used in Tripoli’s wood workshops. And I, the fourth item, am a knob representing Minjara’s location on the map of Rashid Karame’s International Fair.
